Solar PV

Domestic Solar

  • How it works..

    Get a quote:

    •  Start by reaching out to us for a personalised quote tailored to your home or business energy needs.
    • To get started, we just need your Eircode and a few details about your property.
    • Looking for a business quote? We also offer a separate request form for commercial and non-domestic solar solutions.

    Grants and Applications:

    • ESB Networks Application - We'll handle the next step of notifying ESB Networks about your PV solar system installation. The approval process usually takes about 20 days.

    SEAI Grant Application:

    •  As an SEAI-approved installer, we can help you access grant funding that’s available for most homes installing solar systems. Grant approval is needed before installation begins, so it’s best to apply now.
    • The application process is straightforward, and we’re here to assist. You can also check our SEAI Solar PV Grant Application Guide for tips or visit our SEAI Solar Grant Guide page for more information.

    Deposit & Planning:

    • Up until now, there’s been no obligation or cost. Now it’s time to make things official with a deposit, usually 60%, and to schedule an installation date that works best for you.
    • Our team will complete your PV solar system installation in approximately two days.

    Installation:

    • It’s installation day! Our team will arrive to install your solar PV panels on the roof, while our electricians handle the indoor setup and connect all the equipment to get your system up and running.

Sell Your Surplus Energy Back to the Grid:

    • Earn from Excess Energy: Ireland’s Clean Export Guarantee (CEG) Tariff lets homeowners sell surplus solar energy back to the grid, with utility companies required to pay for this exported energy.
    • One Supplier Rule: To benefit from a supplier’s higher tariff, you must also buy your electricity from them.
    • Usage vs. Export: Most systems export 10-40% of generated power. Battery systems store excess, but full batteries on sunny days still lead to exports

    Meter Types:

    • Smart Meters track both incoming and outgoing electricity automatically.
    • Standard Meters: Use estimated export values until a smart meter is installed.
    • Old Wheel Meters: Measure net usage and run backward during export.

0% VAT on PV Solar Installations

    • Eligibility: The 0% VAT rate applies only to private dwellings (houses, apartments, duplexes, and permanently installed mobile homes).
    • Exclusions: Commercial, industrial, public, and short-term accommodation buildings (e.g., hotels, B&Bs) do not qualify.
    • Full System Coverage: The 0% VAT covers the entire PV system, including panels, batteries, controllers, wiring, and labor.
    • Exceptions: EV chargers are taxed at 13.5% VAT.
    • Mixed-Use Buildings: Properties partially used as private residences (e.g., half B&B) may qualify for partial 0% VAT if power is used in both areas.
    • For full details, consult Revenue’s official guidance.
  • Optional Extras..

    EV Charger Installation:

    • We offer EV chargers as a standalone service or as an add-on with solar panel installations. Installation is quick, typically adding only a few hours.
    • Costs may vary based on factors like location, charger model, and fuse board adjustments. A precise quote will be provided before you decide.

    • Solar Compatibility: For homes with solar, we can connect your EV charger to recognise solar output, allowing it to prioritise surplus solar energy for charging. This setup lets your EV charger adapt its charging rate based on available solar power, pausing when solar output drops.

    • Solar-Only Charging: Chargers like the Zappi and Ohme have a “solar-only” mode, which draws exclusively from solar power and adapts in real-time to match surplus energy. If you prefer a solar-compatible charger, let us know, and we’ll recommend the best option.

  • People ask us...

Is Your Home Suitable for Solar Panels?

    Roof Suitability:

    •  Roof size, shape, direction, and type matter. Solar panels perform best on pitched, south-facing roofs with minimal obstructions. We can assess your roof quickly via Google Maps or drone and provide a tailored quote.

    Shading Impact:

    • Shade from trees, chimneys, and buildings can reduce efficiency. Some shading is manageable, but extensive midday shading may not be ideal for solar.

    Electrical Compatibility:

    •  We inspect your fuse board for compatibility. Modern systems are usually ready, but older boards may need updates for safe installation.

    Hot Water Integration:

    • A solar immersion diverter can use excess solar power to heat water, but with smart tariffs, this is often less efficient. Suitable for homes with a hot water tank and immersion heater.

    Grant Eligibility:

    • SEAI offers grants if your property is grid-connected, built before 2021, and hasn’t previously claimed the solar grant.

    Planning Permission for Solar Panels:

    • General Exemption: Since October 2022, homeowners can install rooftop solar panels without planning permission across Ireland, with no size limit on residential rooftops.

    • Protected Areas & Buildings: Planning permission may be required if:
    1. Your home is a protected structure or in an architectural conservation area.
    2. Your home is within a solar safeguarding zone (e.g., near airports or hospitals) to prevent glare issues. For larger rooftop installations in these zones, apply through your local planning authority.

    • Roof Positioning Rules:
    1. Panels must have clear margins around edges:
    2. 50cm from bottom and side edges
    3. 25cm from the ridge line
    • No margin needed on edges adjoining another property.

    • Freestanding Panels: Ground-mounted solar panels do not need planning permission if they are:
    1. Under 2m in height.
    2. Placed to maintain at least 25m² of open space beside or behind the house.

Commercial  Solar

  • Commercial Solar Installation Process...

    Data Collection:

    •  We begin by gathering your annual electrical usage and assessing roof space and type to determine system feasibility.

    Preliminary Proposal:

    • Based on this analysis, we’ll present an initial proposal to see if solar meets your needs before moving further.

    Full Technical Site Survey:

    •  If the initial proposal looks good, we’ll conduct an on-site survey to assess specific site factors.

    Official Proposal:

    • A detailed plan follows, outlining installation specifics and potential site impacts.

    Project Agreement:

    • At this decision point, committing means we’ll start ESB Networks applications and, if necessary, planning permissions.

    Grant Applications (Optional):

    • We’ll guide you through SEAI’s quick, straightforward application process.

    ESB Networks Application:

    • We manage all paperwork; smaller systems require a simple NC6 form, with approval in 20 days. Larger systems need an NC7 form and may involve an ESB inspection, which can take longer.

    Planning Permission (Rarely Required):

    • Planning is generally not needed unless near aviation sites or on protected buildings. For more details, consult government exemptions for rooftop solar.

    Project Delivery:

    • With approvals in place, we coordinate installation with minimal impact on your operations.

    System Commissioning and Handover:

    •  After installation, we’ll conduct a thorough handover, covering operations and monitoring.

    One-Year Review:

    •  One year after commissioning, we’ll review your system’s performance, provide data insights, and ensure everything is running smoothly.
